Who Are the Assemblies of God...
...and what do they believe?

What We Are Not

We do not claim to be the only true church. We are not antagonistic to other Christian groups. We are not teachers of strange doctrines.

What We Are

We are Bible loving, evangelical Christians who emphasise afresh the teachings of Scripture. We are part of a great worldwide fellowship whose message is heard in every land and on every major mission field.

What We Believe

Our beliefs are fundamental and evangelical - our sole textbook being the Bible, which is the only infallible and authoritative Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21; Jn. 5:39; Matt. 24:35).

We believe them is only one God, the Creator, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:1: Isa. 43:10,11; 2 Cor. 13:14; Matt. 28:19; Jn. 14:16,17).

We believe in the deity of our lord Jesus Christ, that he is the Son of God. 'We believe in his virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious and atoning death, bodily resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father (Jn. 1:1 -3; Heb. 1-8; Matt. 1:23; In. 14: 30; Jn. 2:11; Isa. 53:4-6; Matt. 28:6; Acts 1:9).

We believe in the second coming of Christ (Jn. 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4:15-17).

We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit, with his fruit and gifts abiding in the church (1 Cor. 6:12 - 14; 1 Cor. 1:7).

We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit for all believers, with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit Oyes utterance (Acts 1:1 -8; 2: 1-38; 8:15-19; 10:44-47; 19:1-7).

We believe in the spiritually lost condition of men (Gen. 3; Jn. 3:17,18,36).

We believe in the essential need for the new birth by faith in Jesus (Jn. 3:3,16).

That the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ (1 Pet 1:18,19).

We believe in the sacraments of the lord's Supper, and baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for all believers (1 Cor. 11:23-26; Matt 26:26-28; Mk. 16:16; Matt. 28:19).

We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to Eve a holy fife (Gal. 5:16; In. 14:16,17).

We believe in divine healing through personal faith in Jesus Christ (Matt. 8:16,17; Jas. 5:14,15; Mk. 16:17,18).

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life, and the other to everlasting damnation (Jn. 3:36; Jn. 5:28,29; 2 Thess.1:8,9; Rev. 20:11-15).

In fact we can humbly say we believe all that the Old and New Testaments teach and we ever seek to live a faithful, fruitful and fervent Christian life.

Our Emphasis

We emphasise a victorious Spirit-filled life for all believers, teaching that a Pentecostal experience is repeatable today in the life of the Christian church.

Our Name

The name Assemblies of God was the name Oven to all New Testament churches. The word 'church' is best translated 'assembly', as in the Amplified version of the Bible.

Founder

While Christians of our faith can he found all over the world, we are unable to attribute our movement to any Christian leader. We owe our beginning to God alone. The Assemblies of God came into being at the turn of the century through a simultaneous spiritual awakening and Holy Ghost outpouring among many Holiness Groups in England, America and the Continent. Today, the Assemblies of God has 25 million members and adherents worldwide. Here in Australia, there are around 100,000 and over 700 churches.

The Miraculous

The power of Pentecost is an ever-present reality and is the answer to the needs of the twentieth century church. It is tragically possible to have orthodox doctrines but to he cold and formal. The need is for truth quickened with heavenly fire. In his Plea for the Supematuml, Dr A. B. Simpson stirringly reminds us that we have a supernatural God, a supernatural Bible, a supernatural life, supernatural resources and a supernatural hope. The first church was born in Holy Spirit fire and in Holy Spirit fire it should ever continue. The Assemblies of God worldwide seeks to make known these facts. We trust you, too, will find God's great and sufficient provision for your body, soul and spirit.
